Mind Power Secrets | The Five Laws of Habits

By Ann Rusnak Leave a Comment
The 5 laws of habits for successful life

Everybody in this world, in the past, in the now and in the future, will always remain completely and totally 100% ruled and influenced by their existing set of habits.

Life is about habits. The only difference between successful and unsuccessful people is the quality of their habits. Unsuccessful people own unsuccessful habits.

Thoughts lead on to purposes; purposes go forth in action; actions form habits; habits decide character; and character fixes our destiny.~Tyron Edwards

Bad habits form more easily, but extremely hard to end. Good habits, on the other hand, tend to take more time to make. Scientist agree the average person needs at least 3 weeks to form a good habit.

Habits Change The Outcome Of Your Life

Changing habits does not change the person. You remain your true unique self. New habits will give you radically different results and improve your performance. You will experience dramatically and completely out of the ordinary life.

If you don’t like direction of the current path of your life, you can make a course correction through habits.

Understanding The Laws Of Habit To Simplify Change

Habit Law #1
You remain 100% strictly controlled by your current set of habits. You cannot get anymore disciplined to them. That’s because of Habit Law #2

Habit Law #2
All habits in your life feel natural at the time you possess them. Both good and bad habits feel natural and herein lies the problem. It feels unnatural when you start to change a habit. Your subconscious keeps pulling you back to your established habit.

Habit Law #3
Fortunately, it only takes a short time period of time for your new habit to form. Scientific research says it takes approximately 21 days to establish a new habit. After 21 days, it feels like your new habit belongs to you, it starts to feel natural.

Habit Law #4
Now the hard part of changing your habits. It’s not really hard, but human nature like to complicates things and go to extremes. People get in trouble when they decide to change their lives because they want to change all of their habits at once.

The problem arises because you can only change ONE habit at a time! Your mind can only handle one single habit every 21 days. Your new habit gets engrained in your subconscious by following another law of nature… the law of repetition.

Here is the good news… often changing one habit, several ther habits will change automatically with it.

You really don’t need to change all your habits. Just pick some pivotal habits and change those and a lot of other things will change.

Habit Law #5
Success in life results from goal directed habits. Get a clear goal in mind and use that goal to direct your habit changes for the rest of your life.

Action Creates New Habits – Habits Determine Your Destiny

Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny. ~Unknown

Did you know over 3 years you receive 52 gifts of 21 day periods? You can change 52 pivotal habits in your life over a 3 year period.  Can you imagine the spectacular and dramatic results?  All by focusing on changing a single habit every 21 days.

Realistically, some habits may take a little longer, perhaps 30 days instead of 21 days… You still would create 36 life changing habits. You would still experience spectacular and dramatic results in you life.

4 Actions Steps Toward Spectacular Results

1. Make a list of the habits you want to change.

2. Pick ONE pivotal habit from your list.  Write out how the desired outcome will feel. I recommend putting the end result on an index card or post it note etc.

3. Focus all your attention this new habit. Create and design a daily and/or weekly routine to incorporate your new habit in your life. Remember, the new habit you create will  force you to often make very challenging changes. It will feel unnatural at first… don’t beat yourself up in the process.

Review your end result and reflect on how it will feel when accomplished.

4. Repeat The Process: Once you create your new habit, select the next habit from your list you want to create. Before you know it,you will have developed 12 – 17 new habits in one year! Imagine you will create a whole new life full of success… one habit at a time.

What habit do want to change the most in over the next 21/30 days?

Share your thoughts below on what you received from this article. Remember these laws the next time frustration sets in while making positive changes to your life.

[Money Mindset Challenge] Day 4 – Your Secret Companion

By Ann Rusnak 1 Comment
Habits

The best investment you could ever make is the investment in yourself. You might want to read this article on self investing. You definitely devote time for yourself to do the challenge.

Now on with Day 4

Yesterday I mentioned all my current actions supported the relationship with my money monster. To support my new relationship with money, requires new actions.

There is another companion in the play that affects your results and any changes you attempt to make in your life. This companion is the reason why changes happen slower than desired if the happen at all.

We rarely give this powerful companion much thought throughout the day.

I came across a poem in one my financial books I’d like to share with you.

I am your constant companion.
I am your greatest helper or your heaviest burden
I will push you onward or drag you down to failure.
I am at your command.
Half of the task that you do you might just as well
turn over to me and I will do them quickly
and correctly.

I am easily managed,
you must merely be firm with me.
Show me exactly how you want something done;
after a few lessons I will do it automatically.
I am the servant of all great peoples and
alas of all failures as well.
Those who are great I have made great,
those who are failures I have made failures.

I am not a machine, but I work with all the precision
of a machine, plus the intelligence of a person.
Now you may run me for profit or
you may run me for ruin.
It makes no difference to me.
Take me, train me, be firm with me,
and I will lay the world at your feet.
Be easy with me and I will destroy you.

Who am I? I am called Habit

How Habits Develop

In order for an activity to develop into a habit, it must be repeated a large number of times. Habits take time to develop because the "activity" needs repetition to occur over and over again for it to  store in our subconscious mind.  Hence a habit is born and acts subconsciously often without one’s awareness

Once an idea has been accepted by the subconscious mind, it remains until it is replaced by another idea. The longer it is held, the more it tends to become a fixed habit or thought pattern. This is how habits of action are formed, both good and bad. Habitual behavior often goes unnoticed in persons exhibiting it.

Research claims that any activity repeated for 21 days slowly becomes a habit. I’m not sure of this 21-day deadline, but habits do develop in a month or two if the activity is repeatedly performed.

Brain researchers discovered  when we consciously develop new habits, we create parallel synaptic paths, and even entirely new brain cells, that can jump our thought onto new, innovative pathways.

Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

Once I understood how the power of habits and the subconscious mind works together, I knew not to expect instant results nor become disappointed by set backs.

I would eventually replace my negative money behaviors if I remained persistent.

This is why meeting my goal of staying overdraft free for one year would take more than that year.

Clearing Up Money Messes – Part Two

Before I began my personal challenge I basically kept my account balance in my brain. I would occasionally look at online for the current balance.  Only when the overdraft notices came in did I panic.

I needed to develop the habit of knowing and keeping account balance current. No more keeping it in my brain.

I’m a paper/pencil person and opted to find my current balance and keep track using a paper register instead of software.

1. I went online to print out my current balance and all transactions. Of course I didn’t do a good job of keeping check stubs and ATM receipts.

I took the print out and checked off what check stubs and ATM receipts in my possession and filled in any blanks where possible.

2. I checked the account just about everyday in an attempt to catch anything forgotten. Sometimes I could ward off an overdraft by making a quick deposit… other time Ouch!

3. Over the next couple of months I saw a dramatic decrease. Still not perfect but a big improvement. I did discover many auto subscriptions in addition to  our normal bills. I began canceling them.

4. For good measure, I changed my debit card number just in case I missed some or somebody didn’t follow my cancellation request.

5. My husband had his own nasty habit of withdrawing or making purchase and not giving me the receipts or telling me right away. I got a basket to place on my desk for him to throw in all his receipts.

6. He could make no withdraws or purchases using the debt it card without conferring with me and checking our balance. (same rule went for me too)

It took several months for both us to get the same page and get our account in workable condition.
