[Money Mindset Challenge] Day 17 – Simple Steps to Stop Lack Mentality

By Ann Rusnak 2 Comments

Can you believe it’s Day 17 already?

abundant thinking

My mentor and friend Kirt Christensen recommended an excellent book on getting what you want. The book "I am Rich Beyond My Wildest Dreams" remains my favorite book on writing goals.

The author’s instructions on how to write them really drove home the idea of an abundant mindset.

He recommends using a spiral notebook. Write one desire on every other line and on one side of the paper. He said asking God to allow you live abundance starts now by  skipping lines and writing on one side. The inexpensive cost of a spiral notebook make it easy to buy more when you fill it up. I keep a stash of them in my office.

This approach got me thinking about other "small" ways I could start thinking in terms of abundance instead of focusing on lack.  I asked myself the following question: "Am I holding, hording or not using something because I’m afraid I can’t afford to replace it?"

Think Abundance

Wallace D. Wattles said, “"Nature is an inexhaustible storehouse of riches; the supply will never run short."

Enjoy Life

You probably heard life’s too short… so use good china everyday instead of saving it for those few special occasions. I thought why not… why am I saving it? Lack mentality belief that if it gets broken I can’t afford to replace it. I said to myself, God will provide a way if I need to replace it.

I must admit that while the china does look nice in the china cabinet, it looks much nicer on the table with food on them.  (one caveat, the gold trim requires hand washing them and so does the silver to prevent scratching. Out of laziness I don’t use them everyday but do use them more often than I did in the past)

I love fresh flowers.  So a bouquet of fresh flowers adorns my office desk.

Go Ahead Indulge

Little indulgences can make you feel wealthy. Adding a little luxury in your life is a great way to feel rich. Remember, your subconscious thrives on feeling and emotions.

First I’m not advocating you going into debt.  You can begin to do small, simple things to give you pleasure.  Have fun and enjoy what you have now.
Here are few things to start creating your indulgence list.

  • Don’t save your good china, use it.
  • A bouquet of fresh flowers does wonders for the soul.
  • Use colorful cloth napkins instead of paper ones.
  • Scented candles add an elegant touch to any environment
  • Take a long luxurious bubble bath.
  • Splurge on a silk robe. Silk feels so luxurious against your skin.
  • Sip ginger ale or club soda from your crystal champagne flutes.
  • Sip red wine from a chilled wine glass while eating a square of deep dark chocolate.
  • Treat yourself to a pedicure, massage or facial.
  • Read a book
  • Meditate

A colleague of mine recommended a new release book from one of her favorite authors. I couldn’t resist her glowing review and headed to the bookstore to purchase Alexandra Stoddard’s "Living a Beautiful Life. 500 Ways to Add Elegance, Order, Beauty and Joy to Every Day of Your Life."

This book is a mainstay in the bathroom library. This 20 year old book still inspires me when I find myself caught up in lack mood. While some of the ideas seem over the top, I find they trigger my imagination.

Consider the things that would make you feel happier about your surroundings. The idea is to have fun and enjoy your life and see yourself as deserving.

[Money Mindset Challenge] Day 1 – The Money Miracle

By Ann Rusnak 2 Comments
Financial Celebration

It’s the first day of the 21 day Money Mindset challenge and I’m so excited to have you follow me on this journey.

February 2011, I purchased a bottle of Dom Pérignon Champagne to celebrate overcoming a big obstacle to achieving my financial dreams.

My Childhood Introduction About Money

I grew up with a lot of extreme emotional and phyical abuse about money. I just wasn’t getting the message on the evils of money.

My goal since a young girl: To become "filthy" "stinking" Rich. (notice the words in quotation marks, we’ll talk about them in a moment)

Ooops wrong life pursuit for someone coming from a religaholic family who believes the only honor one can achieve is to become a priest… Oops… I messed up again, I came into the world as the wrong sex. No priesthood for me.

Growing up I receiving a litany of rules concerning life and money. Happiness is not found here on earth. All rewards come after you die. We’re not here to enjoy life. Money is evil. My dreams came from the devil.

My high driving, ambitious personality became my parents mission to save me from myself.

My father though I kept missing my mother’s message that I’m doomed for hell. So one day he yanked me off the kitchen chair and dragging me to the stove and place my hand above the flames.

I actually lost those memories and hardly remembered anything about my childhood.

My parent did a lot of damage to my core identity and it would take over 4 years of intensive therapy to recover my sense of self.

I originally went into therapy because I read enough books to know I was sabotaging my goals so they wouldn’t come true. During this time, I recovered many of my lost memories and dealt with many issues while putting myself of sense back together.

Many of my other goals started to happened, but for some reason my financial ones kept eluding me. No matter what I did.

I knew everything my parents told me was a lie. All the personal development, visualization, law of attraction, affirmation etc. still left me stuck. When my father died several years ago, I visualized burying all the "crap" with him.

Still no progress. I continued to experience financial struggles even when generating 6 figure income. I became more and more frustrated.

What was still deep down inside me that kept my financial dreams away? While I intellectually did the right things to attract money, I didn’t know I was pushing it away.

I would create one financial mess after another and swore every time one got cleaned up, I would manage my money better. I couldn’t break this vicious cycle. I soon realized that unless I got help, maybe go back into therapy, it didn’t matter how much income came in, financial struggling would be a way of life.

The Money Miracle

I prayed for a money miracle because I did it again. No money showed up. Instead I received an ebook from somebody I met at business seminar. She asked everybody from the seminar if we would review a book she wrote.

I met her earlier on Facebook and looked forward to personally meeting her at the seminar. I totally misjudge what she did. I thought she was another one of those "Law of Attraction" people.

When I read her book, I went OMG!!!!! Yes, there was something or should I say someone still lurking deep down inside called a Money Monster.

Boy did I misunderstood what Morgana Rae did. She’s actually a money relationship coach.  I was so impressed with the ebook, I purchased her Financial Alchemy workbook and CD.

Morgana recommends the first thing you do is identify your negative beliefs about money.

If you remember when I mentioned my childhood goal, I included the words, filthy and stinking.

Often theses are the types of words associated with the wealthy and money.

My parents told me to aspire to obtain wealth was selfish and/or self centered attitude. Man I don’t know how many time I was told what a selfish human being I was. Of course this kind of attitude was a ticket to hell.

I recently came across an article asking which city has the most billionaires. N.Y. City came out the current champion boasting 60 super "extra disgustingly" rich.

I guess if you rise above millionaire status you become extra disgusting.

Honestly who wants to be associated with those kinds of words?
