Have you ever heard the saying "Starting a business is the ultimate personal development program?"
Recently several of my mentors are echoing that saying… Boy are they telling the truth!
It takes a strong sense of belief in yourself and your business vision, lots of confidence to execute that vision and lots of faith to follow that dream. Especially when the odds appear to be against you.
Technology has broken down many of the barriers once associated with starting a business. Here is an interesting statistic … women now own at least 40% of all businesses in the United States and are starting at least, if not more, than two times the national average.
Today’s technology allows us to design, create and arrange our business around our lives, children and family.
While technological advances broke through many of the business starting barriers, there are some barriers that it can’t breach. Those are your personal, inner barriers to success.
Studies show low self esteem appears to impact women more than men. With more woman starting businesses, low self esteem issues are bound to show up more frequently.
Your business will bring you face to face with all your stuff… all your issues. One of the major issues will probably revolve around money. Guess what? Business is all about money… no money coming in = no business.
Even I reached a point where my low self esteem issue surrounding money not only affected my business but also my personal life. It didn’t matter how much money I invested in coaching and sales and marketing programs. As long as the issues remained, I was never going to see the results from my investments and hard work.
It felt like I was throwing money down the drain.
Do you ever feel like that? Like no matter what programs you buy, you never see the results not matter what you do? Or you only get so far and end up feeling like you’re hitting your ahead against the wall.
5 Ways Your Low Self Esteem Can Show Up In Your Business.
1. Not Feeling Good or Smart Enough
When you feel this way about yourself, you may view yourself as a fraud and worry people will discover your "secret." You operate your business out of fear.
2. You See Your Business as Small and Poor.
Actually this is how you see yourself. You underestimate the value of your skills bring to the market. You don’t feel comfortable charging more for your services.
3. You Would Rather Get Paid Something Than Nothing.
You’re also afraid to say no when ask you to lower your fees. This is how you end up with clients from hell. Hell clients make running your business a nightmare.
4. Think "People" Can’t Pay Anymore Than A Certain Amount.
This goes hand in hand with number 3. That’s your hang up about money, your perception that you are projecting on your potential clients. We all have some "limit" we won’t pay beyond. With low self esteem, you put that same limit on clients even though they would pay more.
5. Feel Embarrassed Charging Too Much.
You don’t want to be seen as expensive. Once again you are reflecting your beliefs about what is "too expensive" onto your clients.
